This beautiful old iron pier in St Annes on the Lancashire coast is one of my local haunts. I love the textures of the rusting old structure, and here I photographed it using a long exposure in order to remove detail from the water to simplify the scene. I was lucky on this particular day that the lovely soft light added three-dimensionality to the cylindrical legs which gives the photograph a solidity and strength which contrasts nicely with the water.
